Note from the "Last Frontier":  Eagle River, AK - 7/24/08 - Termination Dust in the Chugach Mountains!

Winter is coming soon!  That's what "termination dust" means, the termination of summer.  We had snow in the Chugach Mountains surrounding Anchorage this morning!  Wow!  That is quite early for snow in the mountains.  I can see it right out my window!  Last year we didn't get it till mid-August.  Cruisers, you should be able to get some great mountain shots!  Hikers, from Anchorage you can take the People Mover ( bus) to Eagle River.  The trailhead is a short cab ride away.  Ask to go to the "Mount Magnificient" (4,272 ft.) trailhead.  Happy Hiking!

More "termination dust" was seen on Mt. Magnificient and other Chugach Mountains along the Eagle River Loop Road, leading down to Eagle River Nature Center, a great starting or stopping place for hiking the Crow Pass Trail (Iditarod Trail).
